Touch and Abstinence

Target Audience: Level III (early adolescence, ages 12 through 15; middle school/junior high school; grades 7-8)

Duration of Lesson: Two class periods with film and one class period without film

Date Published: 3/06

Summary: The lesson helps students distinguish between nurturing, affectionate, sexual, violent, and exploitive touch and distinguish appropriate touch from inappropriate touch. Students also discuss the basic human need for touch and explore ways that individuals can get their need for touch met in nonsexual ways. A second class period is required if an optional video is used. An optional family homework assignment is included.
