Reproduction 101 Summary:
The goal of this lesson is to increase participants’ knowledge of male and female anatomy and reproductive systems. Participants work in groups to answer a series of questions located on three separate handouts. The answers are not to be graded but will be discussed after completion.

Body Image Summary: This interactive lesson is designed to increase the participant’s awareness of his/her physical self and of media influences on her/his self image and behavior. Students are broken up into same-sex small groups of 4 or 5 and given diverse magazines and newsprint in which to create a collage. The activity and discussion questions focus on helping young people think about their personal perspectives on appearance and attractiveness and the influence of the media. Making Connections: Identifying the Links Between Body Image and Sexual Health Summary: Through small group work, discussion and brainstorming, participants discuss the connection between negative body image and risky sexual behavior. To view this lesson click here:
Body Image Summary: This lesson is designed to encourage teens to have healthy attitudes about their body image. Participants complete an activity that encourages them to think about body image in same sex groups and then come together as a large group to discuss. To view this lesson click here:

Heterosexual Questionnaire Summary: This activity gives participants an opportunity to experience the types of questions that are often asked of gay, lesbian and bisexual people. Students are asked to form small groups and answer a series of questions listed on a handout. The lesson concludes with a discussion, including reactions to the answers on the handout. Summary: This activity allows students to learn about issues faced by gay, lesbian, bisexual and questioning individuals and to promote acceptance and respect for all people irrespective of their sexual orientation. The leader of this activity reads a guided imagery to the class which students then discuss in pairs. The lesson requires a panel composed of youth and young adults who are openly gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning.
How to be a Super Activist or Ally Summary: In this lesson participants identify ways to be an activist and/or ally to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people. Towards Understanding… Some of Us Are Lesbian Or Gay Summary: In this lesson, participants list responses to questions designed to help them evaluate messages about people who are lesbian or gay, consider the impact that being lesbian or gay has on the life of a person growing up in this society, and identify ways that a person who is lesbian or gay could find support. Introduction to Gender Identity and Gender Expression Summary: The purpose of this lesson is to increase awareness of and empathy with people who are transgender. Participants read the story of a transgender teen aloud and then discuss the story in small groups followed by a discussion with the entire group. Who Am I? Summary: The purpose of this lesson is to get participants thinking about their own identities and how discrimination and privilege affect their lives. Gender Lifelines Summary: In this lesson, students learn definitions for sex, gender identity, and gender role, and draw their own individual “lifelines” from birth to present day on adding machine tape, marking significant events that have had an impact on their gender roles and identities. After completing lifelines, they break into small groups of 4 to discuss and process. While it does provide a definition of gender identity and briefly discusses transgender, the emphasis of this lesson as written is gender roles.
